This is a picture of the sunset from our apartment balcony. It is not the same as the sunsets in Sanpete County but it is still beautiful. On our way to church we drive through an area where there are some pastures with cows in them, even though it is in the middle of the city of Spring which is a suberb of Houston.  At least I get to see some cows on Sundays. They have green grass year around which is a lot different from Spring City. Being a hay farmer here might not be the best occupation.  The end of the pond at our apartments is close to our apartment. This is the main wildlife that we see. The turtles come out to bask in the sun when it is shining.  This week we had a 77 year old sister come in looking for a job. She had been living with her daughter for several years and had given her most of her money to buy their house.  All of a sudden, one day her daughter told her that she had 24 hours to get out of the house.  This was in Arkansas. Her deceas...

We have been quite busy so I didn't get anything posted last week. We had a senior missionary dinner on Monday. It was nice to get to know the other senior missionaries in our area a little better. The couple on the far end are the Taylors. He is in charge of all the automobiles in the mission, and she manages the finances in the mission. The next couple on the left are the Owens. They are in charge of all the housing. So they have to arrange for all the apartments for the young missionaries as well as us old ones. It has to be a difficult job since they have to move all the furniture to new apartments as well. The next sister missionary is the nurse for the mission. The closest couple on the left are the Petersons. They are self-reliance missionaries. The other couple closest on the right are the Garrisons. They are in charge of the peanut butter factory. This factory produces all of the peanut butter for the Church nationwide. It goes to all the Bishop's Storehouses for thos...

This is the Deseret Industries building where our office is located. The office is located inside the two doors that you see on the right hand side of the picture. This is the view from the balcony of our 4th floor apartment. At least we have a nice view even though there is no elevator currently.
As you can tell, it has been a while since my first post. As a result, I am having to relearn how this blog works. Hopefully, everyone will be able to log in to it and see our posts during our mission in Houston, TX.  We are managing the church employment services in Houston. It covers a large area of Southern Texas, including San Antonio. There is a new Deseret Industries building here in Houston, and as far as I know, it is the only one in Texas. For those of you who do not know what Deseret Industries (DI) is, it is very similar to Good Will Stores.  They accept donations and then they are sold at low prices in the store. I knew that DI hired individuals that had handicaps and could not find other employment, but I did not realize that the main goal as far as the employees are concerned is to teach them how to work, and train them in specific areas according to their abilities.  They have classes that we teach which helps them learn how to find future employment....
